This week in Room #107, 11/21/12

First - please note the important dates listed in Upcoming Events and the test and the Quizzes and Tests section.

This is a short week but a very busy one!

In Math this week we are wrapping up Unit 3.  The students took a quick quiz today to see how well they know the concepts.  We corrected the Unit 3 Reveiw they have had since last Friday.  They will be getting another copy of the Unit 3 Reveiw on Tuesday next week because the Unit test will be on Wednesday, November 28th.  We will continue focusing on our multiplication and division operations. There was no fast fact tests this week.  We will have them next Friday again.  The mastering process for fast facts is addition, multiplication, division, and subtraction.  The students seem to be doing quite well with the program and are flourishing.  It is important that every student learns the proper words for these two operations. We are focusing on factors, product, prime numbers, composite numbers, quotient, divisor, dividend, factor pairs, fact families, number sentences, open sentences, and variables. Just to name a few.

We continue to use parentheses in our number sentences and they have been introduced to the variable.  The letter that sits in the number sentence and they have to solve for it.  It can look intimidating but the studetns are really learning to handle it.

Ask your child what "Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally" means.

We continue to work on learning about our government.  We are focusing on the powers of the federal and state governments and the powers that they share.

In Language Arts - it is important that your child read daily. I have provided a November calendar for recording their minutes.

The November reading calendar and the November handwriting packet are due on December 4th.
  • In reading we are working on informational text and using information from them to write persuasive papers.
  • In writing we continue to work on grammar as well as writer's craft.
