This past week in Room #107, 11/2/12

Last Friday was a little busy and I totally for got to post what we are working on.  Last Friday was the end of the 1st quarter.  It is hard to believe that a 1/4 of the year is over.

In Language Arts we are continuing to split our time with our writing. We are finishing our Halloween stories. They are hanging in the hallway if you are in the building and would like to have a fun and scary read.  We are also starting to explore persuasive writing. We will be doing more of this in our social studies unit that we will be focusing more on in the next couple of weeks.

In reading we are continuing exploring informational text and the features that help us understand what the authors are trying to tell us. We are working on picking just the right books for us to read independently.  Each student is required to complete the reading calendar each month and turn it in.  By reading at least 20 minutes every night it is easy to meet the monthly goal.  This shows how the attitude that each child has towards reading.

We finished our science unit on ecosystems.  We will not be starting another science unit for a couple of weeks.

In social studies we are still working on exploring and understanding our government and how it works. It is not an easy topic for students to understand. We will be exploring more indepth the three levels of govenment as well as the three branches of government.

Math is focusing on multiplication, division, and continued practice.  We need to make sure that students know math terms such as dividend, divisor, fact family, factor, number sentence, prime number, product, quotient, and square number are just a few that they need to be able to recognize and understand.
