This week in Room #107, 11/16/12

First - please note the important dates listed in Upcoming Events.

Please note that if your child wants to be in school variety show, they must turn in a permission slip by November 21st.

In Math this week we continued focusing on our multiplication and division operations. Some of you may notice that your child is taking the multiplication fast fact tests on Fridays now. As they master them they will move to division and then back to subtraction. It is important that every student learns the proper words for these two operations. We are focusing on factors, product, prime numbers, composite numbers, quotient, divisor, dividend, factor pairs, fact families, number sentences, open sentences, and variables. Just to name a few.
We are also starting to use parentheses in our number sentences.  Ask your child what "Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally" means.

We continue to work on learning about our government.

In Language Arts - it is important that your child read daily. I have provided a November calendar for recording their minutes. This calendar and their November handwriting packet are due on December 4th.

  • In reading we are working on informational text and using information from them to write persuasive papers.
  • In writing we continue to work on grammar as well as writer's craft.  Our Thankful poems are hanging in the hallway.
