I am so proud of our students. They really worked hard
and persevered on the MEAP. We had 5 full days of testing- just
sitting for that long is a huge challenge!!! (the snacks really helped to
make it not-so-horrible THANK YOU!)
I am very excited that MEAP is over and that we can get out of review mode and
into regular routines. Next week, students will analyze their DRA
(reading assessment) rubrics to identify their strengths and set personal
goals. This process involves my direction, their analysis, and a
conference with me to be sure that there is not only a goal, but a plan.
Once reading conferences are completed, we'll move on to writing goals.
Homework is an important part of school. It allows children to practice
skills that they have learned. Please have your child share their planner
each night and look over their homework. I know that children fight
parents over homework, but I also know that the students that do homework in a
timely matter grow more and grow faster than those that don't. They come
to school with questions and strategies to share. Whether they fight it
or not, they take pride in having work done, and don't feel so great when it
isn't. They need help and reminders. Homework has another benefit:
teaching children time management.
